Appointments

Are you accepting new patients?

Yes, Lee's Veterinary Hospital accepts new patients. Call our office or submit an online request, and our team will follow up to confirm your appointment — an online request is not a confirmed appointment until the clinic contacts you.

New Clients
When should a new puppy or kitten have a first visit?

Schedule your new puppy or kitten's first visit early so our team can build an individualized wellness and vaccine plan for them. Because the right timing and vaccine sequence depend on your pet's age and history, contact our office or visit our New Clients page to get started, and bring any records you already have.

Emergency

What should I do if my pet has an after-hours emergency?

Outside our regular hours, call our emergency line at (256) 737-2000 before coming in. Limited after-hours coverage is available Monday–Friday 5:00 PM – 9:00 PM, Saturday 12:00 PM – 6:00 PM, and Sunday 8:00 AM – 6:00 PM. Calling first lets our team assess the situation and confirm availability — we are not a staffed, round-the-clock emergency hospital. If we're unable to accept your case, or you're outside this coverage, our Emergency page lists referral options.

Emergency Care

Services & Prevention

Do you treat exotic animals and birds?

We care for many exotic pets, including birds, reptiles, and small mammals, alongside cats and dogs. Call ahead so our team can confirm we're a good fit for your pet's specific species before your visit.

Exotic Pet Care
Do you see large animals at the clinic?

Yes. We provide large-animal and equine care for horses, cattle, goats, sheep, and other livestock, with dedicated facilities including a hydraulic chute and tilt table. Please call ahead before bringing in a large animal so our team can prepare.

Large Animal & Equine Care
Why might my pet need a dental procedure?

Dental problems such as tartar buildup, gum disease, or infection can cause pain and make eating uncomfortable, and pets often don't show obvious signs until a problem has progressed. A veterinary oral evaluation helps identify what's happening and what care — cleaning, radiographs, or extraction — may be appropriate for your pet.

Veterinary Dental Care
What should I do if I notice visible parasites on my pet?

Call our office to schedule an exam. Our team can evaluate your pet, recommend appropriate testing, and discuss prevention options suited to your pet's lifestyle — we don't recommend a specific product or dosage without first examining your pet.

Vaccinations & Parasite Prevention
What are heartworms, and how can I help prevent them?

Heartworms are parasites spread by mosquito bites that can cause serious illness if left untreated. Prevention options vary by pet and risk factors, so our team reviews your pet's history and lifestyle at a visit before recommending a plan — there isn't a single product or schedule that fits every animal.

Vaccinations & Parasite Prevention
How does the team approach procedure and anesthesia safety?

Procedures and anesthesia carry some risk for every patient. Our team performs an individualized pre-procedure evaluation, plans anesthesia specifically for your pet, and monitors patients throughout the procedure and recovery. We can't guarantee outcomes, but each case receives that individualized assessment and monitoring.

Veterinary Surgery
How often should my pet have an exam or blood work?

There isn't one fixed schedule that applies to every pet — how often your pet needs an exam or blood work depends on their age, health, history, and your veterinarian's recommendation. Our team will suggest a schedule during a wellness exam based on your pet's individual needs.

Wellness Exams & Preventive Care
How important are nutrition and healthy weight?

Nutrition and body condition are an important part of your pet's overall health, and our team reviews weight and diet as part of a wellness exam. Because the right food and portions depend on your individual pet, we offer general guidance at your visit rather than a one-size-fits-all recommendation.

Wellness Exams & Preventive Care
When should I call about a change in my pet's behavior?

Call us if you notice a change in your pet's behavior, appetite, energy, or routine — you don't need to be certain something is wrong to call. Reaching out promptly lets our team evaluate the change, though earlier contact doesn't guarantee a particular outcome.
